Mohamed Mahmoud is an Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering at Galala University and the National Research Centre (Egypt). Equipped with over 18 years of experience in the field of the Water-Energy-Food nexus and strengthening environmental management and pollution control, he has been intensively involved as a lead scientist in research projects funded by different national and international funding agencies, including the USAID, U.S. DOE, UN-Habitat, JICA, the European Union, and UNESCO. He holds a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Chemistry from Cairo University and a Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering from Arizona State University. Over the past seven years, he has been able to secure up to 600,000 US$ in funding as a group leader. He has published over 65 refereed research papers (h-index = 17) in leading international journals and international conference proceedings. His research efforts contribute significantly to the field through his editorial roles for several peer-reviewed journals, including Frontiers in Microbiology and Frontiers in Chemistry. Prof. Mahmoud is also a 2019 fellow of the Africa Science Leadership Program (ASLP), a fellow of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, and a member of the Global Young Academy. In addition, he is an elected management committee member of three International Water Association (IWA) specialist groups: biofilm; sludge management; and microbial ecology and water engineering. He received various scientific awards, including Graduate Student Awards in Environmental Chemistry, Division of Environmental Chemistry, American Chemical Society (ACS) (2017), and the National Research Center President Award for Best Applied Research (2021).
